You guys crack me up. I’m not the only one who was excited that the word Tsundoku exists.
And y’all have a LOT of books in your To Read pile!
I do too, but I’m an amateur compared to some of you.
I’m humbled to be in your presence.
The best find of the week was from Fee, who showed me a website that will tell you how long it will take to finish reading all the books you have stored up!
This is excellent.
I zipped over to my kindle to see how many books I had on it. Now, I used to have over 1000, but I forgot that my Kindle had started yelling at me about available memory, or some such rubbish, and I’d gone through and deleted a LOT of books. So it currently holds 377 unread books.
I’m going to say there’s probably twenty-some paper books around my house that I haven’t read, but would like too. (Most of our paper books have been read, or they’re my husband’s medical textbooks and I’m warning you, do NOT flip one of those suckers open. Ewwww.)
Anyway, I’m going to round off to an even 400 books on my To Read list. Which doesn’t sound like too many. Until I face the fact that between spending my free time wrestling with the next book I’m trying to write, and being a mom of three who homeschools, I’ve read about 8 books so far this year. So that means I’m only averaging 16 in a full calendar year.
When I put those numbers into the webpage, it tells me that it’s going to take me TWENTY-FIVE YEARS to read them all.
That is if I don’t buy a single book between now and then.
Which is unlikely. (Full disclosure, I downloaded a book between when I wrote that last sentence and this one. Dang.)
I’d love to hear how long it’s going to take you guys to read your backlists.
Although I’m not too sure about how many books I have in my TBR pile, I put in 700 (I’m sure it’s more, though). I’ve read 112 books so far this year–I put 200 as my goal on goodreads–so 200 is what I used to calculate. It would take me three years to finish, Obviously, I don’t have too many distractions in my life.
Well, I summed up all the books on my kindle and the paperbacks that I haven’t read so far and am going to and rounded it up to 3,000:); then I assumed I read around 150 books a year (it’s probably more, but that’s a safe guess if I don’t have much time for reading in a particular year – like this one; so far I have read 80 books out of 150 in my Goodreads challenge – well, some of them were audiobooks which took me more time to listen to than they would have taken if I had just read them:))… It turns out that it will take me 20 years to read all of them (assuming I don’t buy any more books – which is improbable:))… So I can’t die at least until I’m 65:) – that’s a good reason to stay healthy, right?:)
According to my Goodreads list, I have 923 books in my TBR pile. I read around 80 books last year, so it’ll take me 11 years and 6 months to finish it. Thing is, once I buy a book, I remove it from my Goodreads list because I no longer need that reminder. So I probably have more like 1200 books I want to read.
… Who am I kidding? I want to read all the books and it’ll never happen. D:
Reading all 4162 books will take:
416 years and 2 months
You will finish your TBR pile on:

And you will be:

Reading all 8000 books will take:

You will finish your TBR pile on:

And you will be:

Sadly I have more than 8000 books (that is just my Kindle books) I also have ebooks on my iPad and Mac plus my iPhone. Also I did not count the almost 1000 books I own in print and I am sure I’ll buy plenty more in my lifetime, LOL!
Yeah, I’m pretty much screwed. I figured I have about 2000 books that I haven’t read. So, reading 80 books a year on the low end would still take me 25 years to read them all….assuming I don’t buy anymore. Yeah, right! I know I have issues, but since I moved to eBooks, it’s much easier to hide the depth of my problem & avoid an intervention!
I only counted those books that I have saved on my kindle that I haven’t read which came out to be 15,343. I have a lot more hardcover and paperback books that are still packed in several boxes that are in the garage and there wasn’t any way that I could get to them to include them in my TBR. I was only able to read 210 books last year. Soooo reading all of the 15,343 books is only suppose to take me 73 years & 0 months. I’m supposed to have them all finished by August 3rd, 2090 and I will be 134 yrs old!!! Only thing is…I can’t resist buying more books that look and sound good. I’m sure that before I go to bed tonight I will probably be adding more books to my kindle list.
HI, i hopped on over and ran the numbers. I have at least 1000 unread and read at least 500 last year. it will take me 2 years and reach that on July 12,2019and be 83 years old. But I would answer that question as “the day of my funeral”till then I will always have books to be read and a todo list notfinished!!
Hugs, alice
Not sure of the total number of books I have. I can only guess it is in the 1000+ range. So I would say somewhere around 20 years. (Maybe books in the 5000+ range.)
I typed in a 1000 and read about 200 a year. Told me 6 yrs and a bit
Reading all 8000 books will take:
2000 years and 0 months
You will finish your TBR pile on:
July 26, 4017
And you will be:
2045
I feel so look much better after reading your comments. I have about 5500 books on my kindle but some of them are collections (Charles Dickenson Anthony Trollope etc). I read about 200 a year and listen to more as I exercise. At age 66 it’s hopeless because I love old favorites too.
1525 books(from Goodreads list…I actually have more than that)
I am aiming for 150 books this year read 95 so far) so using that it will take me 10 years and two months.Of course, if I keep adding more books(and I am sure I will that will change.I will be 65.
In order to read all of my books on my TBR list, I’ll need to find some way to become an Immortal. Lol. It’ll take 660 years to read all of my books and I will be 695 years old. Hmm, maybe I should get crackin’ at that pile right now 😁
I just can’t get into reading my books on a device. Nor am I one to purchase them. Well, except for when I go to the library sale and get them all for a dollar so that anyone who comes to my house leaves with a novel pressed into their hands. So I read them as I check them out, but that is about three or four a week. I am embarrassed to admit that since I am allegedly a homeschooling mother of four as well. Now, I do have a pile of non-fiction to read. Just can’t bring myself to do it.
2 1/2 years to read 25 books. I think I’ll be beat that. Lol.
J. A. Andrews,
You’re a great author. Ive really enjoyed “Tomkin and the Dragon ” and “A Keeper’s Tale”. I’m looking forward to reading all your work.
Mine will take 37 years I have 1500 books to be read and growing, to many free book sites! lol
